I hold a K-12 NJ Music Teacher Certificate. Currently, I teach strings in the Florham Park NJ School District. I am an adjunct at the Delbarton School in Morristown where I work with the students of the Young Abbey Orchestra and the Abbey Sr. Orchestra. I am Director/Conductor of the All-Wayne Schools Orchestra and Advanced String Ensemble in the Wayne NJ Public Schools. I am a traditional teacher, using materials from a variety of methods. I specialize in secondary students, though teach primary beginners, as well. I regularly prepare students for college applications and music school auditions. My students often choose to enter competitions and orchestra auditions but are not required to. Students perform in group classes, home recitals, and an annual formal recital. I teach Cadet Teacher Training Courses for violin and viola. My overarching interest is in violin pedagogy, finding ways to get from beginner to Paganini solidly and efficiently.

I have been teaching cello privately for almost 35 years, working with students age 5 through adults, and strive to foster enthusiasm for and love of music. I teach a traditional method, using a variety of books and materials. My students participate in their school orchestras and ensembles, perform in my own student recitals, and play in area youth, amateur, regional, and all-state orchestras. I also prepare them for college auditions and competitions, if they choose to. Each year my students participate in the ASTA Certificate Advancement Program. I'm aware that each student is an individual, so I work with each student at a pace that's tailored to their individual needs and goals. My aim is to encourage and nurture each student's musical growth and have them learn to enjoy the experience learning new skills, as well as develop a life-long love for music and the cello. For more information about me and my studio, please go to my website, www.lizcabrera.com.

A little background info on me-I started playing violin at the age of five, received a full tuition scholarship on violin to the University of Miami, and now have 15 years experience teaching strings full time in the public schools of Passaic County. I also perform with 3 orchestras in the tri-state area, and presently teach 18 students privately ranging in age from 6-60 yrs old. All students come to my home studio for lessons once a week. Beginners receive 30 minutes, intermediates 45, and advanced, an hour. I'm very flexible and varied in the styles of music I know and teach-- I've taught classical, jazz improv, fiddle, pop and rock. The first introductory lesson is always free of charge with no obligation onwards. Please email me for rates and any other information I may have left out. I have plenty of references available, and would love to start up lessons with you as soon as possible!
