Summer Strings 2010 Program Open for Enrollment!
Summer Strings is a dynamic educational enrichment program being held this summer in Florham Park, New Jersey for students interested in learning to play the violin, viola, or cello, as well as continuing instruction in the basic skills of playing these orchestral string instruments. The enrichment program will be held for 3 weeks. Each week will consist of two 90-minute workshops. These workshops will begin the week of August 2, and end the week of August 16, 2010. Learn more>>
New Jersey Intergenrational Orchestra Chamber Music Workshop Announced. This program is open to all string and woodwind players wishing to learn about chamber music. The New Jersey Intergenerational Orchestra (NJIO) announces its third annual "Young Artists Concerto Competition", which will be open to all New Jersey students in grades 7 - 12. The Auditions will take place at the Judith Wharton Music Center (60 Locust Ave., Berkeley Heights NJ) on September 13, 2010. Applicants will be required to play one movement of a solo Baroque or Classical period concerto by memory. Two winners will be chosen to receive $200 and $100 respectively, as well as play their winning concertos with the NJIO Symphony Orchestra during the upcoming 2010-2011 season. Announcing NTDTV’s 3rd Chinese International Violin Competition and Vocal Competition, August 12 – 15, 2010 at the Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufmann Center, New York City.
NTDTV is a global, non- profit Chinese- Language television network, dedicated to reviving traditional Chinese culture and bridging the gap between East and West. The competition will be televised around the world via satellite, cable, and the Internet. Monetary sums of $5,000, $3000, and $1000 will be awarded to top performers; the first place winner will also receive an exquisite hand-made violin from a renowned Asian violinmaker; there are also a number of outstanding performance awards. Required repertoire includes pieces from classical composers such as Bach, Beethoven, Paganini, Mozart and a special Chinese piece especially commissioned for this year’s competition.
