The Sharon Holmes ASTA/NJ Scholarship News: 2009 Winner's Update
At the ASTA/NJ Annual Awards Dinner on June 6, 2010, held at the home of Dr. Zufall in Mountain Lakes, ASTA/NJ and the family of Sharon Holmes were delighted to meet up with our 2009 winners of the Sharon Holmes Scholarship, EuGene Park and Victoria Rogers, and have the opportunity to present them with the second installment of their scholarship.
EuGene completed her freshman year at NYU as a music education (violin) major. Victoria had a successful first year at SUNY Potsdam, Crane School of Music as a music education (violin) major, also serving as Secretary of her school’s ASTA Student Chapter. Rebecca Dreyman was unable to be with us, but also had a successful year pursuing music education (violin) at the University of Maryland.
We look forward to publishing essays each girl wrote about their experiences as college freshmen. They offer some very insightful advice for young people considering embarking on a career in music education.
Applications for the Sharon Holmes ASTA/NJ 2011 Scholarship will be posted at www.astanj.com in the fall. String students in their senior year of high school interested in pursuing a career in string teaching are invited to apply. The deadline will be April 8, 2011.
