Sharon Holmes ASTA/NJ 2010 Scholarship Recipients Announced!
At the ASTA/NJ Annual Awards Dinner on June 6, 2010, held at the home of Dr. Zufall in Mountain Lakes, ASTA/NJ and the family of Sharon Holmes were delighted to welcome the Sharon Holmes ASTA/NJ Scholarship recipients and their families.
The Sharon Holmes ASTA/NJ 2010 Scholarship co-recipients are:
Angel Liu, violinist, West Morris Central High School
Kimberley Davis, violinist, Roxbury High School
We congratulate Angel & Kimberley. In the spirit of the scholarship, each girl demonstrates high level of musicianship and commitment to teaching. They both appreciate and have been inspired by the dedication and creativity of their own teachers and are passionate about sharing this love of music with young people. During their high school careers, Angel and Kimberley have been very active in their school music communities, not only as players, but also as teachers to some of the young musicians in their local townships. They have each taken on leadership roles within their school community, including concertmaster of their respective high school orchestras.
Kimberley Davis is a certified cadet teacher through the ASTA/NJ cadet teacher program and enjoys playing in Delbarton Abbey Orchestra where she is concertmaster. Kimberley also sings and has participated as a member of North Jersey Junior Region I Chorus in addition to her membership in North Jersey Region I Orchestra. Kimberley enjoys playing chamber music and has participated in masterclasses at Messiah College in Grantham, PA and at the College of New Jersey.
Angel Liu received recognition this year for membership in North Jersey Region I Orchestra for all 4 years of her high school career. In addition to serving as concertmaster of her high school orchestra, Angel is also President and Librarian. Angel has been recognized as Music Student of the Month on several occasions, a program run by the Community Theater in Morristown, NJ.
Kimberley Davis will be attending Bucknell University to major in music education in the fall. Angel Liu will pursue her music education studies at Rutgers University, Mason Gross School of the Arts.
